The masterpiece that by itself would justify a visit to the Unterlinden Museum is the prestigious Retable d’Issenheim, the Issenheim altarpiece, painted between 1510 and 1516 by Mathias Grunewald for the high altar of the chapel of the Antonines at Issenheim.
Here you can also see some remarkable collections of medieval and contemporary paintings.
This former Dominican convent founded in 1232 has housed the Unterlinden Museum since 1849.
